Volunteers Needed

The Pier Museum is a registered charity and is run entirely by volunteers and unpaid professionals who enable us to keep this important part of our heritage alive.

Southend Pier Museum desperately needs volunteer help in order to ensure the museum stays open to the public.

There is so much to do to keep the museum open to the public. If you could spare just a few hours each week mainly in the summer months, we would love to hear from you.

You will find working in the Museum interesting and rewarding.

To give you an idea of how you could help, here are some of the jobs that need filling:

  • Cashiers - Tickets, you must be numerate and used to handling money
  • Stewards -  Good with public, generally helping with queries, keeping eye on displays, etc.
  • Souvenir sales - Good with money and public
  • Help with school groups Giving demonstrations and helping with queries
  • Accessioning museum collections -  You must be neat and be able to write clearly in the register
  • Help with in-putting the museum collection into a database on our computer system

Training will be given with all the above, when and where available.

We also need a Cleaner -  2 hours twice weekly, mornings preferable.

  • In the museum vacuuming and dusting.
  • In the kitchen and washroom  vacuuming and cleaning surfaces
  • General - clean brass on doors etc

If you can help, please call the Museum Manager, Peggy Dowie on 01702 614553.
When the Museum is open please call Marie the Museum Supervisor on 01702 611214.

If you would prefer you can e-mail the Museum Manager

We look forward to hearing from you.
